Love Your Lymph

Wanting to support your drainage pathways?

Then the lymphatic system deserves some attention.

The lymphatic system does a lot of important work! Some of the important functions include:

-Draining fluid back into the bloodstream from the tissues

-Filtering lymph

-Filtering the blood

-Fighting infection

-Detoxifying the body

-Transporting dietary lipids to the blood- fats & fat soluble vitamins (A, D, K) absorbed by intestinal tract

-Draining excess interstitial fluid

-Maintaining proper fluid balance

-Initiating responses against microbes or abnormal cells.

The lymphatic system acts like a feeding and drainage system for all cells in the body. It has the ability to carry nourishment to cells while also transporting waste! Because it lacks a pump like the heart it is reliant upon skeletal muscles that push against the lymphatic vessels and in so doing squeezes them in a type of "milking action". In a similar way the respiratory system provokes pressures change during inhalation and lymph them flows from the abdomen to the chest area.

The lymphatic system and the liver are very connected. An overburdened liver that is unable to detoxify waste from the body will shuttle toxins and the lymphatic system will often pick up the slack! Bug overburdened and stagnant lymph poses health risks long term. All the more reason to take a holistic approach to supporting all drainage pathways! It's helpful to have some "tools in your toolbox" to support your lymph (and your whole body) daily. Save this blog and use it to refer back to when you need ideas. You don't need to do all these things daily but doing one or several will improve lymphatic health and function and have a positive effect on whole body health.
